Compressed Air Energy Storage Plant to replace batteries for wind and solar power

The technology stores off-peak energy, in the form of compressed air in an underground reservoir, and releases this energy during peak hours. CAES can be used for load management of intermittent renewable energy resources or as a stand-alone intermediate generation source for electricity or the New air pressured cars.

August 27, 2008 Joint Venture To Deploy Compressed Air Energy Storage Plants New Jersey, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]

PSEG Global LLC and energy storage pioneer Dr. Michael Nakhamkin announced that they have formed Energy Storage and Power LLC (ES&P), a joint venture to exclusively market, license, support the development and supervise project execution of the second generation of Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) technology.

PlanMyGreen had a post out about that as well. Good work you two may want to link to one another.

SOLARLIFE, I like this story. It's good stuff. I saw some videos in France on this, quite amazing, one wonders if it could replace batteries for short city jaunts. Certainly more eco friendly

Thanks Barry for Flag "CAES" compressed air will come no doubt, I had a phonecall with Dr. Michael Nakhamkin head of PSEG/US, he is looking for 10 MW air plants. Israel may be interested, but difficult to find a buyer. The french riviera itmdi company has a home storage concept for compressed air from surplus solar or wind including the air pressured car. I will visit the small factory and bring a report. To mention when you discharge the air at home or in the car you have free AC (cold). The story could go on like the candian "Avro Arrow 1.9 mach" black friday fight. I saw the movie yesterday, fascinating.

That is great that you got to speak with Dr. Nakhamkin, I bet it was quite an interesting conversation.

Thanks for Flag of our double Article "compressed air storage", well I spoke half an hour with Dr. Nakhamkin. The result he looks for a serious investor in a 10 MW plant. I see another language problem coming between traditional power companies and the freaky solar guys to different worlds, dont mix good together for the moment. If you have an idea tell me

Here is a link to a plan that is trying to be developed in my state.  http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/story?id=47096

It isn't solar, but since, I believe Iowa is still the number one wind energy producer in the US, it makes perfect sense to go along with our growing renewable energy grid locally.

PlanMyGreen, I am learning with your article IOWA, ....Wind and "cavern air storage" buffer CAES: Iowa
..."Are we sure we want to displace groundwater from the underground rock? Comments on the possible effects on the soil would be appreciated" this was a reader comment to cavern air storage. How many bars or PSI ? Do you know more, it seems to be your state. I have no knoledge base on this.
