Two people who were attempting to sneak into Britain as stowaways on a cargo ship filled with manure have been found dead in the ship's holding.

TWO stowaways were found dead on a cargo ship docked in a Scottish port yesterday.

The gruesome discovery was made by crew members of the 3000-ton Pascal at around 2.40pm.

The vessel, registered in St John’s, Antigua, in the West Indies, had travelled from Tunisia with what was believed to be a cargo of fertiliser.

It docked in Ayr on Sunday. The dead men were not crew members and it is thought they hid in the hold in a bid to sneak into Britain.

Police were last night trying to identify the stowaways and determine how they got on board.
