Local PPP leader, lady councillor shot dead in Pakistan's restive Swat region

Some unidentified persons shot dead a local leader of the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and a lady councillor in separate incidents in Kabal tehsil and Mingora, the headquarter of the restive Swat district on Monday.
The incident occurred two days after target killing of a senior police officer, who was also brother of a minister in the cabinet of Pakistan's troubled North West Frontier Province belonging to the Awami National Party, in the same region where security forces are battling militants for past couple of months.

Some unidentified assailants shot dead PPP leader, Siraj-ul-Haq and a lady councilor in separate acts of violence here on Monday.

Security forces targeted militants’ hideouts in upper parts of Kabbal and Matta tehsils in scenic Swat valley. According to sources, military operation continued against the suspected militants in the troubled valley today.

While security forces heavily bombed militants’ positions with artillery. However, no loss of life was reported.

A local PPP leader Siraj-ul-Haq was gunned down by unknown persons in Aligrama area of Kabbal. Siraj was going to mosques from his residence when some unknown gunmen opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.

On the other hand, unknown assailants killed a woman councilor Bakht Zaiba in Mangora.

Meanwhile, unannounced curfew is still in force in various parts of Kabbal.
