“They call it the 'American Dream' because you have to be asleep to believe it.” - George Carlin

And what best way to keep the people docile than to keep them in the dark. We are back to Plato’s cave.

Worst of all, since Edward Bernays it has become an art to manipulate the will of the people. The obvious and tragic failure of the fourth estate has more to do with framing a narrative that serves our masters than with informing us or, as if that happened recently, telling the truth.

 <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

This is not an easy thing to do. So all notions of how the ones involved, including the present executive branch, are merely incompetent nincompoops, is but a philosophical banana peel. It is an orchestrated and well planed operation to bypass the will of WE THE PEOPLE and turn us into WE THE SHEEPLE !

Thanks Karl and great job Mindfuck Inc. ! Our masters could not do what they want with the people's will  without your diligent daily work and attention.

"A cynical, mercenary, demagogic press will produce in time a people as base as itself "- Joseph Pulitzer

Just a quick reminder of what THEY are fighting for…

The 5% richest among us owns 83% of Wall Street stocks. Even worst, 53% of these stock are in only  1% of these happy few's hands. Is this the technical definition of a plutocracy ?

The salary of the middle class american has shrunk by 4% while the Bush/Cheney admin took over, while the poorest has been slashed by 20%. (a fifth of the population). Meanwhile, Fortune 500 CEOs enjoyed a 51% increase.

In the 70’s the difference between a CEO and his employe’s paycheck was 60 to 1 , it is now 350 to 1 !

"This is an impressive crowd : the Haves and the Have-Mores" - Presidential candidate G.W. Bush / Waldorf Astoria, at a $800 / plate dinner in Octobre 2000

When Reagan took over in 1980, one percent of the population owned 33% of the wealth. In 2006 it was 50%. Now, a hundred fifthy million americans own less than 3%. The predotary mortgage bank industry made sure to make it even worst.

"Washington has become Versailles. We are ruled, entertained and informed by courtiers. The popular media are courtiers. The Democrats, like the Republicans, are courtiers. Our pundits and experts are courtiers. We are captivated by the hollow stagecraft of political theater as we are ruthlessly stripped of power. It is smoke and mirrors, tricks and con games. We are being had." - Chris Hedges

So there ya go, continue to absorb the journalistic pabulum to your own risk, but remember, THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE INDEED !

White Noise, I like this story. It's good stuff. Wow at least there are those willing and able to present to the public an objective view of what the corporate media is "NOT" presenting to the masses, if they want to look. In my opinion it is not the younger generation (40 & under) that is blind to this as much as the older generations that need to be made aware of the shielding of corporate media and the misrepresentation of current issues that have been placed on america by the media.

Thanks White Noise for this and I really like the quote by Plato "We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."

Here a few more

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent" - Eleanor Roosevelt

"A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both" - Dwright Eisenhower

Here is my own:

"The liberties of freedom come with a cost that is not of money or gold. Freedom is forever taking and giving of those willing to place before themselves their cause for humanity to have the rights of equality; before all the people and not the few or the minority. Without one, the other will never be free to have and hold, what those before them has placed in sacrifices to create. What is called the United States of America." - Everchanging  (JALjr)

Eleanor Roosevelt was one smart cookie indeed...

I love this quote of her ...

" Do one thing everyday that scares you !"

At this point and time, seems to me like standing up for the constitution, democracy & the little guy applies...

Strange days indeed !

djermano

I just wonder when we are going to shut-up and start doing something about it. Good Story White Noise, but really what's new?

White Noise

I agree 100% !

Our complacency seems to have no limit indeed !

BTW, have you noticed that the good guys always win execpt on the news ?

At this point the dammage done by this executive branch is so grand, one is left srcatching his head in total disbelief and disarray…not that previous administrations made reading Howard Zinn mandatory ;)

Education or catastrophe said H.G. Wells.  Over the years Mindfuck Inc. (helped by Edward Bernays minions & posse) has created a nation of over 50% of functional analphabetes where lies and credulity marries to generate opinion.

We are light years away from when the entire nation used to read Thomas Paine indeed.

Now...

...so no easy quick fix it kinda magic in 3 easy payments will materialize indeed…

This will be a bottom up endavour, sad thing is I'm afraid we forgot how to do this since we've been infantilize to the extreme.

Some are doing an amazing job like Bill Moyers, but who cares, who can still understand the basics when everything is reduced to the level of 13 years old with an 100 IQ soaked into propaganda from birth.

Ignorance is the downfall of all cultures and we are about to hit bottom.

good stuff:

White Noise, I like this story. It's good stuff.

djermano

And so you suggest we do what to stop these bad guys? I would really like to know? And if it has a violent nature to it, isn't that the problem?

White Noise

The violence these war criminals use to achieve their goals is inexcusable so I , as the old Baba cool I still am, am not the type to encourage more violence. We are suppose to have Law & Order to take care of our differences, but that too has been ridiculed

So, yeah, procecute the current executive branch for war crimes would be a start. Procecute Bush for murder would also be nice ;)

But we would need a sense of dignity and some balls ! Not to common these days...

Now if you don't feel any anger & rage after all this executive branch has done to the nation...either you are not paying attention or there is nobody home...

EXECUTIVE RESUME

djermano

I have one, and that is starting The International Institute of Nonviolence. Some people will claim the Peace Corp is the same; such as Obama advocates, but it is entirely different. The Peace Corp does nothing to stop violence by using Nonviolence as an approach to education.

The Peace Corp is for volunteers who go out into the world helping countries overcome economic and health hardships. They are not an organization that is up front and has as its agenda and mission the work toward Nonviolence.

I feel therefore the Peace Corp is a failure in this, because in a sense they are like the clean up crew after a war. They of course support military actions as long as it protects them. Most Americans think the Peace Corp teaches people about Nonviolence. They don't. That is the problem and why I created The International Institute of Nonviolence.

The International Institute of Nonviolence which I advocate has a specific mission and that is to educate and stop the violence. Whatever the political ideology, a politic that supports militaries will never have peace, and never have real security. So we teach these principles, and develop relationships with people throughout the world that recognizes the need to have Nonviolence. Nonviolence does not necessarily mean having Peace. The example is I can not have Peace with President Bush because he is not honest with the reality to life and the human condition. But I can and do believe I support Nonviolent action to him and his people. There is a difference.

Militaries impose peace as they call it, which in my mind is not real peace. Nonviolent behavior is not real peace either but at least it is nonthreatening, and better for humanity than using force.

Presently I have a Tribal Leader in Bajaur Agency in Pakistan, who would welcome this International Nonviolence Agency Institute. We are trying to find the means to get support from the Governments in the USA, Afghanistan, and neighboring China to recognize this effort and have work funded support to have schools and meetings that teach about the virtues of Nonviolence.

We don't want to start this if those Governments accuse us as being training centers for terrorists cells and lob missile strikes on our efforts.

So yeah I have a real idea, a plan, a workable in the field.....in THEIR FACE.....Nonviolent Agenda.

And I ask for your support.  So don't say I don't have a plan, I don't have the ambition, or accuse me of sitting on my ass in front of the boob tube all day. Don't accuse me of hiding behind guns or needing body guards to protect me. Don't accuse me of being anti-American....because if being an American means I have to support violence and guns, then to me that is not American. I am an American that has more guts and courage than all the military arsenals in the world, because I don't need a gun to make positive change.

Help me will you?

Rev. Jermano The International Institute of Nonviolence

Jermano...maybe you could contact John Perkins at http://www.johnperkins.org/  he's been there and back a few times and his list of contacts must be filled to the brim...

Don't know what your Rev. tag refers to, but I do hope this is not an excuse to bring a religious spin on your procedings.

We all rationalize death the best way we can but anybody that tells me he knows what happens after we kick the bucket is a pathological liar about to ask for a tax deductible donnation. Enough middle age obscurantism from both sides already !

While I totally respect your personal faith I expect the same for the person who thinks the concept of god is up the par with santa claus and that faith is quite the opposite of science. It seems impossible to a lot of amrecan citizens but that's what the US constitution implies with the separartion of church & state.

« Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. » - Thomas Jefferson

Now that's a founding father ;)

Just saying...

djermano

First of all I am a Christian and there is no spinning to that. I consider myself a Reverand because I believe in God and doing better than he did.

I don't have my hand out for donations to do this or that, all I am asking is for support in doing the right things to stop violence. The International Institute of Nonviolence is not a Religious Organisation, nor is it a Political Organization as well. It's is an entirely new process and means to stopping violence and promoting nonviolence without dragging us through the dungeons of Political Debate and Religious Dogma.

I have no idea what happens to us after death, but I sure am not promoting more death to find out.  I would compare Santa Claus to the Easter Bunny, and attribute both to being created by man, but then again since God created Man the credit debate is always open for discussion. Thomas Jefferson certainly was not thinking about the hijacker we have today in Office, so really your comment makes no sense.

Really I think the top 25 censored stories should be 26, because no one in Republican land wants to hear my story on The International Institute of Nonviolence. You can find it here at Nowpublic,.djermano

Have good day. And Thanks for the Perkins link. I never heard of him before now.

Problem is, and reading Perkin's "Confession of an Economic Hit Man" makes it plain to see & realize ; we are facing an empire building operation that transcends this administration and my Blackwater : The Crusade clip is no fiction. So good old Thomas Jefferson is still spot on with his caustic remark. King Georges come and go but the same repressive & unjust system remains. Vive La Fayette ;)

It is possible to affect history from inside the system. Slavery was ended as an institution from within the english parlement, within royalty, within the church but they still had to cheat to make it happen. Watch the movie Amazing Grace for an executive resume http://www.amazinggracemovie.com/

But faced with a gun in your face after millions of your people has been butchered as in Vietnam, East Timor and so many more places is, let's say, a lot to ask from the victim to kindly offer the other cheek. Jesus never had to deal with depleted uranium or agent orange that cripples generations after generations...

So yeah, PEACE BROTHER but at what price ?

Resistance is sometimes all that is left of human dignity and that is a tragedy that is never adressed. Ask the jews who came out alive from the nazi concetration camps or your run of the mill Iraki for size...

The problem Whitenoise is people reject the teachings and meanings of Jesus in America and is why things have gone so bad. You can find a million examples to knock the Lord and have the blame asserted to him, but he is who gave us free choice. We either do as he taught or perish. Many Americans are choosing the perish. Bush is no Chriatian, and I have good reason to not support any of the God forsaken Churches in the USA. I just won't and I don't believe they know who God is. After coming to live in Athiest PR China now for nearly 7 years I see a great difference in the people and culture. Americans say they believe in God but do some of  the most bad things a people could do. They do everything they can to sin while keeping a regular Church attendance throughout the years. On the other hand PR China whoclaims to disavow God, and are athiest have to be some of the most kind hearted people I have ever seen in my life. They go out of their way to help each other, and that is no lie. The stuff you hear in the News with China bashing simply is not the real Chinese people I have grown with here in China. Athiests are more Christ like than Christian. Go figure right?

But its true......I'll say a little prayer for you Whitenoise...I pray the Lord will bless and keep you because you are one of his sons who can recognize the good and stand for the best for humanity. He is forgiving and kindhearted, may he watch over you and keep you well.

White Noise

As stated earlier, I do respect your faith but do come from an entirely different mind space best described by this luminary whom understood that humor is the politeness of despair ;)

"Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do, every minute of every day; and the invisible man has a special list of 10 things he does not want you to do; and if you do any of these 10 things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry, forever and ever, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and HE NEEDS MONEY. " - George Carlin

As for philosophy and death ?… again…

"The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating...

...and you finish off as an orgasm." - George Carlin

djermano

I bet George Carlin see's things differently now though. The point is God knows these things. George Carlin brings nothing new in his so called humor on the topic. That is why really there is no invisible man. Those who don't believe don't see. Those who do, know there is nothing invisible about him.

White Noise

...and there lies the line between faith & science.

One can't argue with faith, therefore line of argument & discussion closed.

djermano

It's called the Golden Rule. The trouble is people think there is not suppose to be suffering in the world. Gods own son knows suffering, even when he made the Golden Rule. But still he forgave knowing that they know not what they do. Teaching and acts of goodness are the only defense against those who do bad things and really don't know what they are doing. U.S. Perpetuates Mass Killings In Iraq

By Peter Phillips

The United States is directly responsible for over one million Iraqi deaths since the invasion five and half years ago.  In a January 2008 report, a British polling group Opinion Research Business (ORB) reports that,  “survey work confirms our earlier estimate that over 1,000,000 Iraqi citizens have died as a result of the conflict which started in 2003…. We now estimate that the death toll between March 2003 and August 2007 is likely to have been of the order of 1,033,000. If one takes into account the margin of error associated with survey data of this nature then the estimated range is between 946,000 and 1,120,000”.

This report comes on the heels of two earlier studies conducted by Johns Hopkins University published in the Lancet medical journal that confirmed the continuing numbers of mass deaths in Iraq.  A study done by Dr. Les Roberts from January 1, 2002 to March 18 2003 put the civilian deaths at that time at over 100,000. A second study published in the Lancet in October 2006 documented over 650,000 civilian deaths in Iraq since the start of the US invasion.  The 2006 study confirms that US aerial bombing in civilian neighborhoods caused over a third of these deaths and that over half the deaths are directly attributable to US forces.

The now estimated 1.2 million dead, as of July 2008, includes children, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, cab drivers, clerics, schoolteachers, factory workers, policemen, poets, healthcare workers, day care providers, construction workers, babysitters, musicians, bakers, restaurant workers and many more. All manner of ordinary people in Iraq have died because the United States decided to invade their country. These are deaths in excess of the normal civilian death rate under the prior government.

The magnitude of these deaths is undeniable. The continuing occupation by US forces guarantees a mass death rate in excess of 10,000 people per month with half that number dying at the hands of US forces— a carnage so severe and so concentrated at to equate it with the most heinous mass killings in world history. This act has not gone unnoticed.

Recently, Dennis Kucinich introduced a single impeachment article against George W. Bush for lying to Congress and the American people about the reasons for invading Iraq. On July 15 The House forwarded the resolution to the Judiciary Committee with a 238 to 180 vote.  That Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction and Iraq’s threat to the US is now beyond doubt. Former US federal prosecutor Elizabeth De La Vega documents the lies most thoroughly in her book U.S. Vs Bush, and numerous other researchers have verified Bush’s untrue statements.

The American people are faced with a serious moral dilemma. Murder and war crimes have been conducted in our name. We have allowed the war/occupation to continue in Iraq and offered ourselves little choice within the top two presidential candidates for immediate cessation of the mass killings. McCain would undoubtedly accept the deaths of another million Iraqi civilians in order to save face for America, and Obama’s 18-month timetable for withdrawal would likely result in another 250,000 civilian deaths or more.

We owe our children and ourselves a future without the shame of mass murder on our collective conscience. The only resolution of this dilemma is the immediate withdrawal of all US troops in Iraq and the prosecution and imprisonment of those responsible. Anything less creates a permanent original sin on the soul of the nation for that we will forever suffer.

Peter Phillips is a Professor of Sociology at Sonoma State University and director of Project Censored a media research group.  He is the co-editor with Dennnis Loo of the book Impeach the President: The Case Against Bush and Cheney.
