NP Rank:
Who Killed More? Bosnia's Karadzic or Myanmar's Than Shwe
By Ashin Mettacara
Karadzic was one of the world's most wanted war crimes fugitives. He is a former Bosnian Serb president and a masterminded man of the ethnic cleansing .
More than 8000 Muslims were killed during the 1992-95 Bosnian war. But the latest research says about 100,000 people were killed in this war. Karadzic was arrested on early Tuesday morning in a sweep by Serbian security forces.
After Karadzic, Myanmar military leader Than Shwe should be considered and included in the list of world’s most wanted because he masterminded to kill the Buddhist monks and people during September uprising , 2007. He can also be accused of masterminding "ethnic cleansing" killings of Sham , Kayin and its own citizens. The Army and Senior General Than Shwe had committed similar crimes of killing NLD members and students on many occasions. The major massacre is in Depe Yin town , 30th May 2003, hundreds of NLD members led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, were killed. The intention of Depe Yin massacre was to assassinate Daw Aung San Kyi, but she fortunately released with the help of people and pro-democracy members.
Recently Nargis cyclone hit many parts of Myanmar , more than 138000 people were killed and more than 2 million people are helpless, homeless and hopeless. Nargis killed less, but Myanmar military government killed more with the failures to rescue, food supplies and medical supplies. All the cruelties of life in Myanmar are masterminded by Senior General Than Shwe.

My dear Paschen,
I don't forget other , also. Because at the moment I want to make the world to know more about Burma (known as Myanmar). That is why I am helping and reporting the news as a monk. I am not political monk. But need to help for my good people and country. We all monks are eating donated by food. So we all monks should not stay away from politics. At least we need to comfort them or need to heal when they are suffering this unfairness disease.

For a Buddhist monk I find your headline a little strange, and upon reflection I'm sure you would agree that even the death of a single person is too much. I don't think we need to compare "scorecards" between Karadzic, and the Burmese Junta leader Than Shwe. Both are evil and both will have to repay their evil karma, one way or another.
There is enough evidence against Karadzic to bring him before the International Court, as so it seems with the president of Sudan. Collecting evidence against Junta leader Than Shwe is much more difficult unless there is an invasion of Burma and evidence can be collected. But if I was Than Shwe, I would be very worried about his position, especially if the Sudanese president is charged. With China's strong support of Than Shwe, its unlikely we will see a military invasion soon. It would also help if America recognized the International Court, which it continues to refuse to do? I support Aung San Suu Kyi and the people of Burma and have made campaign's since the early 1970's.
I have also added your blog feed to my daily reads

mettacara, I like this story. It's good stuff. Well not so good for the people of Burma (Myanmar), but a good article. Thanks for posting this and standing up for your people. And for giving us all a better understanding of why you are doing this.

An interesting comparison - I'm not sure there is really an answer however - seems they are both equally as awful.
