NP Rank:
Zimbabwe Election to Proceed, Gov't Doesn't Believe Tsvangirai

This news out of Zimbabwe demonstrates the sheer foolishness of Robert Mugabe's government. Zimbabwean officials have said a run-off presidential election will go ahead, despite the withdrawal of opposition candidate Morgan Tsvangirai. Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa said Mr Tsvangirai's announcement was a ruse - he had not sent a formal notice yet.
Mugabe is hoping the election results (which since he is now the only candidate will heavily favor him), will help him crush the opposition going forward.
However, Mugabe is miscalculating. Now the international community is paying attention to Zimbabwe and it not happy.

jhaber, I like this story. It's good stuff. Let's hope something positive will come of it. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

jhaber, I like this story. It's good stuff. I am afraid the situation will worsen before it gets better. There is evidence of genocide and anarchy.
